I gave a similar review to the Dubbo Observatory... The main difference being the sky is darker in Coonabarabran. We were here just before a full moon. It was amazing peering through the telescope and seeing the moon up so close. This being the case, however, made the night sky very bright and not ideal for viewing other celestial objects. It was still fantastic and got to see some planets, globular clusters and binary star systems. Defiantly worth while whatever the time depending on what you want to focus on.

We visited mid February 2017 and we were greeted by Marcus who was our guide to our universe and beyond. Marcus was clearly passionate about what he spoke about but was able to be approachable and explain things in a manner which was easy to comprehend. He took the time to allow our small group to have a good look at each star. We were lucky that we had about 40 minutes before the Moon came up and washed out the sky. The views here of the night sky are amazing. A rare sight and something that is hard to find anywhere else in Australia. A must visit if you are in the area it's worth the late night. We will be back in Winter for another look.

A definite must for those looking for a fun introduction to astronomy. Slide show and talk with access to five telescopes. we had several teens and kids in our group and they seemed to enjoy it as well

Very good observatory; warm and friendly guides. One the darkest "Dark-Sky" spots in Australia, for an excellent night sky viewing. We did a 9.00 PM visit and had amazing viewings of various planets and stars, including the Moon, Mars, Southern Cross, Great Bear and many others. Instructive and educative. Must book in advance on their web-site to be sure.
